“What is Enlightenment ?” (“Qu’est-ce que les Lumières ?”), in Rabinow (P.), éd., The Foucault Reader, New York, Pantheon Books, 1984, pp. 32-50.
I like putting this text at the end of a course on political theory because of how it draws a classic text, that of Immanuel Kant’s What is Enlightenment?, to the exegeses of the present.
Its a display of readership. It is the type of essay you can only achieve by having read the history of political thought.
