Kant What Is Enlightenment?

The edition of this text I relied on was the Cambridge University Press edition of Kant’s Political Writings.

Kant, Immanuel. Kant: Political Writings. United States: Cambridge University Press, 1991.

Enlightenment was a huge intellectual movement that grew from people reading and writing, their opinions in letters and exchanging those letters.  That is why they are called men of letters.  Its an essay that encapsulates the Zeitgeist of the time.

We will read numerous other texts that reference this one.

The is where the word “critical” comes to have a specific philosophical meaning.
